Qelem ("we", "us", "Qelem") provides exam preparation tools for students in Ethiopia. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how you can contact us.
Information we collect
- Account information — name, phone number, password (stored securely), and exam preferences you choose during onboarding.
- Study activity — practice answers, mock exam results, saved questions, mistake reviews, and lesson progress. Used to show your progress and improve your study experience.
- AI usage — messages you send to the AI tutor and related billing metadata for credit purchases.
- Payment information — purchases are processed by Chapa. We do not store your full card or mobile-money credentials; we receive payment status and references from Chapa.
- Device information — basic device and platform details (no push alerts in v1).
- Support messages — content you send when contacting Help & support.
How we use information
We use your information to:
- Provide and sync your study data across devices
- Operate AI tutoring and credit billing
- Process payments and support requests
- Maintain security and prevent abuse
- Improve Qelem's content and features
Offline storage
The Qelem app stores study content and your activity locally on your device so you can practice offline. This data syncs to our servers when you are online and signed in.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Payment processors (Chapa) to complete purchases
- AI providers to generate explanations (your prompts and related question context)
- Service providers that help us run Qelem (hosting, analytics if used)
- Authorities when required by law
Data retention
We keep account and study data while your account is active. You may request deletion by contacting support.
Your choices
- Update profile and exam preferences in the app
- Contact support to request account deletion or data questions
- Sign out or uninstall the app at any time
Children
Qelem is intended for students preparing for exams. If you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate consent, contact us.
Changes
We may update this policy. We will post the revised version in the app and update the date shown above.
